HISTORY LIVES UPang commemorates 54th year of Martial Law

On September 21, 2026, the PHINMA University of Pangasinan (UPang) community marked the 54th anniversary of Martial Law, an era of dictatorship under the regime of Ferdinand Marcos Sr., through a ceremony held at the Student Plaza.

“As students and as young people, it is not enough for us to simply know; we must fiercely care.” Supreme Student Council (SSC) stated in its official statement on the 54th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.

UPang Flames and members of the SSC, led by President Reevo Atkins Doria, gathered for a prayer, followed by a symbolic signing on the tarpaulin where they wrote messages such as ‘Never Forget’ and ‘Never Again.’

“We believe that Making Lives of Others Better starts with our generation's resolute defiance against apathy.” SSC further stated.

Candle lighting ceremony was also held to remember the victims of Martial Law and to honor those who fought for freedom and democracy.

SSC also encouraged fellow students to leave their own messages on the tarpaulin as part of the commemoration.

Students, the SSC, the Center for Student Development and Leadership, and the entire PHINMA UPang community stand united in the continuing fight for justice for the victims of Martial Law and in breaking the silence on an oppressive history.
