Student Leaders grasp why leadership matters during Daluyon Lead Camp

More than just a role, PHINMA University of Pangasinan (UPang) student leaders explored the importance of leadership through three core concepts during Daluyon Lead Camp 2026 which happened on May 21–23 at the University Campus.

The event’s chairperson Supreme Student Council (SSC) President Robert Gabiola explained the Daluyon Lead Camp symbol wave which represents the three core concepts: Siak, Sikami, and Sangkarakelan. The other symbol compass represents the moral compass of the student leaders.

Ms. Erika Mae S. Pontawe, LPT, the guest speaker for the session on Siak, emphasized self-identity, self-intention, self-character, and self-growth as foundational elements, discussing the importance of leading oneself before leading others.

Marahuyo, Mapagpalaya, Maalab, Maagos, Maalam, Siklab, Liwayway, and Halimaw crew members participated in the group activities such as banner and yell making for the second day of lead camp.

“Serving others requires active leadership. Leadership is about what people actually need, not what you want. It’s not Sikami. Because you can't see others apart from you. Governance is about making others a part of you. So it should be Sika Tayo.” College of Arts and Sciences Dean Franklin de Guzman said.

Mapagpalaya Crew earned the highest number of berries and Marahuyo Crew gained the highest number of points in the Grand Line Journey team building activities.

“We are social beings. You have people beside you to care for. Student leaders, even amid today’s challenges, you should remain a source of hope for others and for the future.” stated Ms. Janice Hebron, Katipunan Formation Program guest speaker.

Mr. Louie Figueroa, Mr. Rance Martel, and Mr. Luegi Mancao, student leaders from Southwestern University PHINMA discussed Paliwawa topics built on Sangkarakelan meaning community about economics, environment, and governance.

Atty. Mike Datario, co-adviser of the SSC, opened the washing of the feet ceremony with a message on humility in leadership.

Crew members gathered for a social night in One Piece inspired outfits featuring performances from University of Pangasinan Dance Company, Life's Sound Society, and representatives from the eight crews for The Captain’s Challenge.

Incoming student leaders joined zumba and warm up, presented the templates for COA, Master Budget, and plans for the academic year 2026–2027.

Pres. Gabiola mentioned that the important day of the camp is day five and beyond because that's when student leaders apply everything they learned involving discipline, vision, and commitment.
