VIVA PHINMA: UPang welcomes Flames Community to new Academic Year

PHINMA University of Pangasinan (UPang) successfully concluded the First Week Hi! (FWH) 2026, the university's first combined welcome week for freshmen and upperclassmen, with the theme “Spread Your Wings, Embrace New Beginnings” at PHINMA UPang grounds from July 6–11.

With the first-ever joint FWH for both upperclassmen and freshmen, the whole week's event showcased various activities and initiatives spearheaded by the Supreme Student Council (SSC).

Students were welcomed with a ‘Salubong’ at the PTC Main Gate and RS Building Gate, along with loud drums that brought energy and excitement to the campus.

The opening also highlighted the Parade of Uniforms and Community Dance showcasing the different departments and college uniforms at the PHINMA Avenue.

The week featured Rio Treats, Outfit of the Day, Trivia Questions, RIO Rewards, and Raffles, which the students actively participated in throughout the event.

Different booths and information desks also took place across the campus, offering student services, information, and interactive games.

Despite the rainy weather, the culmination program proceeded with SSC President Reevo Atkins Doria’s welcome remarks, inspiring students to embrace the new academic year with courage, openness, and determination.

“As we officially begin this new academic year, I encourage each and every one of you to embrace new opportunities, step outside your comfort zone, and make connections that will last a lifetime. Never be afraid to spread your wings. The road ahead may not always be easy. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. But remember, you are not alone,” President Doria said.

The oath-taking ceremony, awarding of accreditation certificates, and photo opportunity for accredited student organizations for Academic Year 2026–2027 followed.

PHINMA UPang Assistant Chief Operating Officer (ACOO) Ms. Renabel J. Suni then addressed the students, welcoming the freshmen and Grade 11 learners as new members of the PHINMA Education Network. She highlighted the significance of being part of a wider educational community, emphasizing the opportunities and experiences that come with joining one of Southeast Asia’s largest education networks.

“Maybe our ates and kuyas, alam na ito, but for our grade 11 and freshmen, congratulations because you are now part of the largest education network. Not only in Pangasinan, not even in the Philippines, but in the whole of Southeast Asia.” Ms. Suni uttered.

Student leaders and representatives from different departments marched around the University Gymnasium during the Parade of Uniforms, wearing their respective corporate uniforms.

The program concluded with Lighting of Cauldron, symbolizing the official beginning of the Academic Year 2026–2027 led by ACOO Renabel J. Suni, College Deans, SSC President, and Local Student Council Governors.
