CHAMPIONS CROWNED: CEA, CAHS clinch FWH ’26 titles

College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) and College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) emerged as champions in the First Week Hi! (FWH!) 2026 Interdepartment Competition during the culminating program, celebrated on the 10th of July at the University Gymnasium.

Anchored by the theme “Viva PHINMA: Spread Your Wings, Embrace New Beginnings”, the Supreme Student Council hosted an Interdepartmental Competition. Through Bulletin Board making and production of Inspirational Video, these two contests provided an opportunity for all PHINMA University of Pangasinan (UPang) Flames to feature their creativity, teamwork, and their grit to embark on a new chapter as a new academic year officially starts.

Led by their student councils and organizations, CEA topped the Best Bulletin Board category with 282 points, while CAHS took the title for Best Inspirational Video with 230.5 points.

Following CEA’s championship, the College of Management and Accountancy obtained first runner-up with a score of 271 points, followed by the College of Education and Liberal Arts (CELA) at second runner-up with 262 points. Joining CAHS on the podium were CELA in first runner-up with 229.67 points, and College of Information Technology at second runner-up, gaining a score of 225.12 points.

In an interview, CEA Student Council’s Governor, Gabriel Morales Victorio, expressed that this victory was a result of the CEA community’s unwavering support and dedication towards their vision, and even carried a more meaningful experience for they were able to finally brag the award of Bulletin Championship for the department—an achievement they have long been waiting for. Furthermore, he also shared the inspiration behind their craft is the six programs of CEA, symbolizing the theme of this year’s FWH that promotes unity towards a shared purpose.

“This is more than just a victory—it reflects what we can accomplish when a community comes together with one shared vision. This reminds us that every success carries a greater responsibility to continue fostering a community built on one vision, excellence and service.” Governor Victorio emphasized.

Meanwhile, sir Lhanz Bianan Tigno, the Production Team Head of CAHS, also shared their journey and challenges all throughout the creation of their video.

Mr. Tigno admitted that this was one of the most challenging tasks he had worked on, serving as a versatile member—from production, scriptwriting, filming, and video editing.

Aside from this, their team was also cornered by countless trials along the way—with the changing weather and struggle to match everyone’s schedule, to revisions and reserving equipment. Yet despite the struggles and tribulations they’ve faced, the team kept the vision alive.

When asked about their strategy, Mr. Tigno simply stated “My goal was simple: I wanted people to see themselves in the video.”

“The message isn't just for College of Allied Health Sciences students, it's for every student who has ever questioned if they're good enough or ready to take the next step. If someone finishes the video feeling a little more hopeful, a little more confident, or finally ready to spread their wings, then I believe we've already achieved what we set out to do.” he further explained.

The excellence displayed by the UPang Flames is not just a proof of their commitment, dedication, and hardwork, but also a reflection of their willingness to accept the new challenges ahead and embody the spirit of spreading their wings towards greater heights.
